Dr Anastasia Griva

Anastasia has worked on research commercialisation by establishing two AI and analytics start-ups which have raised more than 1.3 million from VC funds. Her research interests lie in the areas of Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Customer Behaviour. She has published in edited books, academic journals (e.g., Information Systems Frontiers, IT & People, International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Expert Systems with Applications, IEEE Software, Journal of Decision Systems), and proceedings of international conferences (e.g., ECIS, MCIS, EURO). She has served as a Guest Editor for various journals (e.g., ISF, IJIM, JDS). For the last three years, she has served as track chair for the AI in research and practice track at ECIS. Anastasia also was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow recipient (ALECS fellowship) at Lero, where she worked on applied Business Analytics in software development projects with industry partners such as Intel.

Anastasia was the winner of the Dean's Award for Inclusive Teaching in 2022 and was nominated for a teaching excellence award in 2021 and 2023.

In 2023 the Lero Directors awarded Anastasia the Education and Public Engagement Prize. This recognises her extensive efforts in organising educational events, delivering workshops and webinars, and contributing to business journals, along with her active engagement in public discussions, distinguishing her as deserving recognition for her outstanding work. Additionally, she co-organises an annual international datathon with TBS education, bringing together students from the MSc in Business Analytics programme in Toulouse, France.

Business Analytics and Decision-Making

Anastasia equips students with the skills to apply decision theory effectively and evaluate diverse decision-making approaches. Additionally, it provides a comprehensive understanding of analytics techniques for data-driven innovation in business contexts.

Artificial Intelligence and Responsibility

Addresses critical topics such as biases, explainable AI, and the ethical implications of black-box algorithms in AI applications. Students engage with real-world examples to understand the importance of transparency and accountability in AI systems, fostering responsible development and deployment practices for ethical AI innovation.

Industry engagement with companies such as Intel, L'Oreal, Nestle, Carrefour, Erikson.

Researcher at Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Centre for Software.

Start-up mentor at Athens Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Co-organiser of international datathon with Toulouse Business School, France, and NTNU, Norway.

Member of the organising committee of 1st and 2nd Coding Bootcamps for High School Students.

Elected Academic Representative and Board Member for Efficient Consumer Response (ECR), Greece. The Greek retailer–manufacturer working group focused on creating innovative new ways to better manage retail problems.
