Mona works in Healthcare Information Systems, aiming to enhance person-centred care and drive the movement towards digital health. Her work focuses on developing frameworks for improved decision-making, emphasising patient needs, and ensuring the ethical and responsible design and integration of decision support systems. By enhancing the adoption and acceptance of digital solutions through proper design and integration, she contributes to the effective and safe application of technology in healthcare settings.

Mona's main research in Healthcare Information Systems supports key objectives within three Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

My engagement in collaborative projects and funding initiatives spans a range of sectors. This includes my role in securing a research grant for the PACSI project at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University of Galway, aimed at analysing data from the National Patients Experience Survey Programme. Additionally, I have contributed as a data analyst in collaboration with the School of Business at the University of Galway on the Socio-Economic Health Environmental Research (SHEER) project.

Teaching

Cloud Computing examines how data centres have improved and explores ways to make the architecture layers of cloud to device as efficient as possible. The module helps students to develop an understanding of cloud computing in the overall strategy of businesses, and to examine the impacts of cloud computing for individuals and society. Topics include: the impacts of cloud computing; Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability in cloud computing and emerging topics in cloud computing, cloud security, privacy and identity.

Decision Modelling and Analytics enables students to comprehend the nuances of contemporary decision-making, focusing on crafting efficient decision models and leveraging technology for enhanced problem-solving. The curriculum is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of how analytical techniques can be applied effectively in various scenarios. Students are guided through evaluating the reliability of data and utilising simulation models to streamline decision processes.

Enterprise Systems aims to enhance students' comprehension of Enterprise Systems and their application in business. The course delves into ERP systems, their deployment and implementation, and the realisation of benefits, alongside an exploration of Supply Chain Management and enterprise architecture management. Special emphasis is placed on digital transformation and the integration of sustainability within Enterprise Systems, highlighting emerging directions such as the application of generative AI. This concise curriculum is tailored to provide students with critical insights and practical skills for effective management and innovation in enterprise systems.

Engagement

Currently, I am actively collaborating with international teams from Carleton University, Gdansk University of Technology, and ESIC Business & Marketing School, focusing on sustainability, as well as environmental, social and governance initiatives within hospital settings.

My involvement also extends to a significant role in developing a proposal for secondary data analysis in relation to the National Care Experience Programme (NCEP). This engagement has facilitated partnerships with leading healthcare organisations such as the HSE, Department of Health and HIQA.

The research and collaborative projects indirectly support Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1: No Poverty, by contributing to the improvement of health outcomes, which is a fundamental step towards alleviating poverty. They also directly support SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
